What Is in This Range
35 designs, and unusually for our catalogue every one of them carries a listed price, from Rs 56 to Rs 64 per square foot. Thirty four are 600x1200mm (2x4 foot) with one design in 300x600mm. The material is vitrified throughout, and the finish is mostly glossy with a few matt designs.
Why Large Format Works Behind a Hob
The argument for a 600x1200mm tile on a kitchen wall is grout. Cooking spatter lands on the wall behind the hob every day, and grout is what holds onto it. A backsplash run in large format tiles can cover the whole splash zone in two or three pieces, leaving a couple of joints instead of dozens. It wipes down in one pass.
Glossy is the right instinct here for the same reason it is wrong on a kitchen floor. Walls stay dry and are not walked on, so the slip argument does not apply, and oil lifts off a glossy glaze with a wipe where it sits in the texture of a matt tile and needs a degreaser. Our matt versus glossy guide sets out the split room by room.
Planning the Wall
Measure the splash zone, not the whole wall
Most kitchens tile from the counter to the underside of the wall units, which is a band of roughly 500 to 600mm. Measure that band along each run rather than treating the wall as a rectangle, and subtract nothing for sockets, since they are cut from tiles you still have to buy.
Check the tile against the counter
A marble look wall above a granite or quartz counter can fight it if both carry strong veining. Bring a piece of your counter material, or a clear photograph of it in daylight, and hold the two together at the showroom.
Wall tiles are not floor tiles
These are made for vertical use. Do not put them on the kitchen floor, where they will not take the traffic. Our guide to vitrified versus ceramic tiles explains the difference in the body of the tile.
