600x1200 mm Tiles (2x4 Feet) in Bangalore
600x1200 mm, sold as 2x4 feet, is the size most new floors in Bengaluru are laid in. One tile covers about 7.75 square feet, so a room needs fewer pieces, fewer grout lines and less cutting than the older 2x2 format.

Why This Size Took Over
A 600x1200 tile covers roughly 7.75 square feet on its own. Lay a 120 square foot room in it and you place about 16 tiles; the same room in 300x300 takes more than 120. Fewer joints means a floor that reads as one surface rather than a grid, and fewer grout lines to keep clean.
Most designs in this size come two to a box, giving about 15.5 square feet per box. That is the number to divide into your area when you are working out quantities.
What to Check Before You Commit
Can the tile get into the room
A 2x4 foot tile is heavy and rigid. Measure the turn at the top of a narrow staircase and the width of the doorway before ordering, particularly for a first floor or a flat with a tight landing.
The floor underneath has to be flat
Large format is less forgiving than small format. A dip that a 300x300 tile bridges will leave a 600x1200 rocking or lipping at the edge. Ask your tiler to check the screed with a straight edge first.
Allow more for cuts
A bad cut wastes a bigger piece here than in any other size. Add fifteen per cent rather than ten.
Where It Suits
This is the default for living rooms, halls and bedrooms, and it works on a bathroom or kitchen wall where a large face means almost no grout behind the hob. For a floor that takes water, choose a matt surface in this size rather than glossy.
