Texture Against Weather

A deep stone or brick texture takes rain and sun far better than a smooth face, and it hides the dust that settles on every exterior surface in this city. It also throws a shadow, which is what stops a facade looking flat at midday.

How Much to Tile

Most of the facades here tile a band or a single plane rather than the whole front. A tiled column, a porch wall or the strip around the entrance does more than covering everything, and costs a fraction as much.
